The Metamorphosi Trio

As autumn approaches Florence, free music is in the air. Several concerts featuring an excellent selection of musicians and songs are available this October and November. All of the following performances take place at the Sinopoli Auditorium, via Fontanelle 24, San Domenico (Fiesole) at 11 am.

First up is piano duo Paola Biondi and Debora Brunialti, who will perform music by Poulenc, Debussy, Gershwin and Sollima on October 9. These two have performed together for years and are guaranteed to bring a strong start to October’s program.

Two weeks later on the 23rd,  Maggio Musicale Orchestra musicians John Riccucci (clarinet) and Susanna Bertuccioli (harp) and Alessia Sordini (flute) will share the stage with the Aphrodite Quartet to play pieces by Debussy, Ibert and Ravel.

Next, on November 6, a untraditional ensemble of flute, violin and guitar will be presented by Stefano Agostini, Miriam Sadun and Silvano Mazzoni. The group has chosen to pay homage to the past by playing E minor, Op. 9 n. 3 of Ferdinando Carulli, an Italian who composed for classical guitar. The rest of their program features contemporary works, including a world premiere by Massimo Buffetti.

Trio Metamophosi is line-up featured for November 13; they will play a lesser-known piece, Trio op. 59 by Giuseppe Martucci. Complementing Martucci’s work is Trio in D minor, Op. 63 by Robert Schumann. The Trio Metamophosi recently recorded Schumann’s famous song and their performance is the perfect opportunity to hear the work live.

November’s concerts will conclude with more musicians of the Maggio Musicale Orchestra: Boriana Nakeva (violin), Jorg Winkler (viola), Patrizio Serino (cello), Marco Martelli (double bass) and Louis Manaresi (piano). This strings and piano group will interpret Mozart’s Quartet in E flat K 493 and Franz Schubert’s quintet piece, “The Trout.”

Many of these artists can only be seen at costly venues, so do take the opportunity to enjoy their musical gifts for free while you can.  (jordan siccardi)
