December 4: Enrico Dindo and Beatrice Rana. Teatro della Pergola. 9 pm

This Sunday, the Amici della Musica (Friends of Music) are welcoming the all-Italian duo of Enrico Dindo and Beatrice Rana for a twentieth century tribute concert. This will be the first time the organization is showcasing these artists together.

The program will be built upon the works of Claude Debussy, a French composer known for establishing nontraditional tonalities, the composer Dmitri Shostakovich, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Amongst the numbers to be played is Shostakovich’s Sonata op. 40, written just before the Soviet authorities censured his music, deeming it too decadent, and Rachmaninoff’s Sonata op. 19. Typical of sonatas in the Romantic period, this piece carries four movements dominated by generously melodic orchestral colors.

Cellist Enrico Dindo is the first and only Italian winner of the lauded Rostropovich Competition in Paris. He began his career as a conductor when he founded the Pavia Soloists, a chamber orchestra.

Beatrice Rana, on piano, has distinguished herself in the classical music industry by winning multiple awards, including the Montreal International Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She is celebrated on an international level, having performed at concert halls in Zurich, London, Paris, and several US theaters.

These artists have formed a duo that exemplifies the talent cultivated by Italian music academies. Find them this weekend only at Teatro della Pergola. (carson cecil)
