ORT, Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ & Ligeti

Federico Colli

In his April 4 debut at Teatro Verdi (9 pm), Alejo Pérez will direct the performance of Ligeti and Beethoven by the Orchestra della Toscana and soloist Federico Colli.

The evening will open with Beethoven’s Eroica (Symphony No. 3), composed in 1804. Its dynamic composition and complicated structure was meant to celebrate Napoleon. Also on the program is Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3, written in 1800. Dedicated to Prince Ferdinand of Prussia, the piece is said to resemble Mozart’s 24th Piano Concerto.

Concert Romanesc, a more recent work by Ligeti will also be interpreted, and it includes a Romanian folk music tone lasting 12 minutes. Considered modern and unconventional for its time, the piece includes a piece of Romanian folk music lasting 12 minutes.

The Argentinian conductor has appeared with Bologna’s Orchestra del Teatro Comunale, London’s Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique of Radio France, and many more.  Pérez’s style on the podium is described as being extremely sensitive, and he is renowned for his artistic ability to arrange and perform complex compositions.

Federico Colli, who won first prize at the Salzburg Mozart Competition in 2011, will be accompanying the Orchestra della Toscana on the piano. While he has already made a name for himself in Italy, he is also internationally recognized, having played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and in the Israel at the Eilat Chamber Music Festival.
