3 Tuscan Victims in Genoa Bridge Disaster

Alberto Fanfani and Marta Danisi

Of the 39 dead identified in the August 14 collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa, three are from Tuscany and a fourth was a former resident of the region.

Dr. Alberto Fanfani, 32, was an anesthesiologist at Pisa’s Cisanello hospital who met his girlfriend, Marta Danisi from Sicily on the job. She had recently transferred to a hospital in Alessandri, a city in Liguria where they were headed. Stella Boccia, 24, resident of  Civitella Valdichiana also perished along with her boyfriend, Carlos Jesus Trujillo, a 23 year old native of the Dominican Republic resident in Capolona in the province of Arezzo.  They were returning to Tuscany after a brief vacation.

Florence mayor Dario Nardella has decreed that the flags on Palazzo Vecchio – the Italian flag, the EU flag and one with the city symbol – should be displayed at half mast as a sign of mourning.
