Americans Buy ‘Manifattura Tabacchi’

An abandoned industrial space, Florence’s ‘Manifattura Tabacchi,’ has been purchased by an American foundation, the Florence’s mayor’s office announced on July 28.  The price paid was 200 million euro for a space covering 300,000 ft., constructed in the 1930s as a cigar factory in business until 1999. The tobacco utilized arrived from farms in southeast Tuscany.

The project to convert the ‘Manifattura Tabacchi,” located adjacent to the Cascine Park and piazza Puccini, has also been presented, encompassing areas destined for hospitality, offices and luxury student lodging.  To read more in Italian, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
