Anarchists Arrested for Florence Bombings

Two groups of anarchists have been taken into custody for two separate bombing incidents in Florence.

Five are being questioned regarding the package which exploded on New Year’s Day thanks to a timer in front of The Bargello Bookshop in via Leonardo da Vinci (the proprietors are far-right Casa Pound movement sympathizers).  A police agent was trying to defuse the bomb when it went off suddenly, and was seriously injured.

Three other anarchists have been detained for damage that was caused on April 24 at a Rovezzano police station due to a Molotov cocktail launched at the facade of the building.

Police are also in the process of evacuating an abandoned building in Galluzzo which is believed to be the anarchists’s headquarters.  Two of them along with two friends, are currently hiding on the roof — which is unstable — and refuse to come down.  The situation is being monitored.  To read more in Italian, and to see a video and slide show, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
