Bus Strike & Protests in Florence

On March 8, International Women’s Day, the trade unions that the city bus (ATAF) company members belong to have called a strike.  Bus service will be only guaranteed from 6 to 9:15 am and again from 11:45 am to 3:15 pm.

Women have also organized debates and performances, according to theme of the day “to further social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women” in Piazza Santissima Annunziata from 10 to 6 pm.  They will then lead a protest march to emphasize the importance of raising awareness for women’s rights from the square which will end in Piazza Santo Spirito.

Regional trains run the risk of cancellation, while Freccia Rossa and Bianca service is guaranteed.

Air traffic controllers have also announced they will be striking at Tuscany’s airports, which will cause flights to be cancelled or delayed.
