‘Enchanted Garden’ Concert at Castello

The last of the series of Enchanted Villa and Garden Concerts will take place on Friday, June 23 starting at 7 pm, accompanied by the breathtaking scenery of the Villa di Castello garden (via di Castello 47, Florence), declared a World Heritage site.

Historically, the Medici family favored it as a seasonal residence.  The Castello county home was commissioned by Cosimo I, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Merely a year after he became region’s ruler, in 1538,  he hired artist Niccolò “Il Tribolo” Pericoli, to design the garden to reflect his power and prestige. The extensive park is decorated with statues, grottos in addition to Europe’s largest collection of citrus plants, over 1,000, in large terra-cotta pots.

Set within the floral radiance of an Italian landmark, four chamber groups will be performing simultaneously in different areas, filling the space with their delightful sounds. The first group, the ORTrio, consists of members on a violin, viola, and cello, playing the compositions of Mozart. Then, Trio#Ort, composed of two violins and a violet, showcase pieces by Dvořák and Kodály. Trio Cordis cum Choris, two violins and a harp, will fuse idioms of Baroque and 20th century composers, making for an eclectic mix of past and contemporary pieces. Lastly, TRA BASSI e alti, an ensemble featuring two cellos and a double bass will create a lively virtuosity, aimed to invigorate concert-goers.

Beginning at 6 pm, members of the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the green serenity of the gardens, and stroll throughout the space before the musical offerings to create a tranquil experience, Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Verdi Theater Box Office (Mon. – Fri. 10 am – 1 pm), or online at www.teatroverdionline.it at a price of €10, plus pre-order costs. No reservation is required. (jennifer klammer)
