Fiorentina – Dynamo Kyiv 2-0, Apr. 23

On their home turf, Fiorentina triumphed at the quarter finals of the UEFA Europa League last night against Dynamo Kyiv with a final score of 2-0. Through this game, Fiorentina found the self confidence required to become the champions. If they advance through the semifinals, the team will be contenders in the championship for the first time in 25 years.

Fiorentina proved domination of the field from the beginning: Mario Gomez attempted a goal that was disallowed for offsides, while Marcos Alonso later pursued a goal that hit the crossbar; yet, minutes before half time, Gomez made his way back to score the first goal against Kyiv.

Seeming to have control throughout the match, Juan Vargas finally scored the second goal for Fiorentina within the last minutes of the game.

Their future contender in the semifinals could be Dnipro, Sevilla, or Napoli; in the draft to choose opponents on Friday, April 24 it was determined that Fiorentina will face Sevilla in the next Europa League match. (angela karl)
