Until July 30, 2015: 26th ANNUAL FLORENCE DANCE FESTIVAL.All performances in the Bargello courtyard, 9:30 pm. Admission:  21 euro.

Welcoming Italian and international dance companies to a symbolic heart of Florence, the Bargello National Renaissance Sculpture Museum will offer an atmosphere of inspiration to both the public and dancers. During July, the courtyard becomes an enchanted place of movement, emotions, exploration and extremes.

The company, Kaos: Balletto di Firenze, who has a style of dance characterized as unconventional with stylistic rigor, with attention towards beauty and harmony of movement, will be portraying a contemporary tale of famous heretics who have forged their beliefs through time. The dynamic choreographic language that explores the horizons of contemporary dance is by Roberto Sartori, Cristian Farà and Michele Pogliani.

Another interesting presentation is Balletto di Roma’s contemporary version of Swan Lake by renowned choreographer Fabrizio Monteverde, inspired by Tchaikovsky’s original score and “Swan Song” by Chekhov (July 21). This company, founded in 1960 with the desire to enhance and promote Italian dance, has a deep respect for traditional ballet. At the same time the founders built an ensemble of technically precise and interpretive dancers, generating a repertoire of high artistic and cultural value.

Since 1990, the Florence Dance Festival has supported events for a broad audience of all ages through paramount performances. It will host famed instructors such as Dwight Rhoden, choreographer and artistic director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, who was referred to as ‘’one of the most sought out choreographers of the day” by the New York Times.

Over the years, more than 500 world-class companies and popular dance artists from all over the word have enriched the contemporary culture of Florence. This year’s venue will host 300 privileged viewers, guaranteeing an intimate, transcendental experience through the event. (angela karl)
