Florence’s Earthquake Relief Efforts

Everyone in the greater Florence metropolitan area is invited to donate food, clothes, blankets and toys to the survivors of the earthquake in the province of Rieti that destroyed Amatrice, Accumoli and environs.  A collection point has been set up at the Rugby stadium, via Pasquale Paoli 21 at Campo di Marte between the Franchi stadium and the Nelson Mandela Forum.  Hours are 10 am to 10 pm on August 25 and 26.

Another way to give: by texting 45500 on a cell phone, €2 from the credit will go directly to those in need.

Volunteers are loading trucks that are leaving for the earthquake area hourly.  The number of deaths is now at 241, and entire villages have been practically destroyed.  To read more in Italian, and to see a complete list of Tuscan hospitals where to give blood to assist the hundreds who were injured, including many children, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
