Florence’s June English Language Movie Program

Moviegoers can expect to be entertained with fantasy, strong female characters, action, romance and horror in Florence this month. The Odeon Theatre in Piazza Strozzi is screening the highly praised Wonder Woman, based on a comic book character, portrays the dual identities of Amazon Princess Diana and Diana Prince in two hours and twenty minutes of thrilling entertainment. Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy explores the dark side of an ancient Egyptian princess deprived of her birthright.

Monday, June 12 & Tuesday, June 13 (5:30 pm): WONDER WOMAN

Diana, an Amazon princess grew up on an idyllic island inhabited by women warriors. Against her mother’s wishes her aunt Antiope (Robin Wright) trains her as a warrior in secret. A British spy pilot (Chris Pine) crash lands on the island giving Diana her first glimpse of a man and informing her of the impending “war to end all wars” WWI. Diana, charismatically played by Israeli actor Gal Gadot, leaves home armed with sword, shield, lasso and bullet deflecting bracelets determined to save mankind. Director Patty Jenkins manages to combine action, romance and comedy in the DC Comic’s derived film.

Thursday, June 15 (5:30 pm), Friday, June 16 (5:30 & 9 pm), Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 (4:45, 7 & 9 pm): THE MUMMY

An Egyptian princess, entombed under the desert for thousands of years, becomes unearthed by fortune hunter Nick Morton (Tom Cruise). Princess Ahmanet, whose destiny was unfairly denied her, unleashes a fury that causes terror and maladies before unknown in the world.  

Admission is €8, €6 for students from Monday to Friday and for everyone who comes to the first showing on Wednesday afternoon.  (rita kungel)
