Free Classical Music in ‘La Piazza Incantata’

Piazza Santa Croce is one of Florence’s most beautiful and well-known city squares. It is therefore fitting that the CR Firenze Foundation has chosen to hold a free concert in this space in honor of its 25th anniversary.

On June 28 at 8:30 pm, 500 musicians will perform in Santa Croce as part of an event entitled La Piazza Incantata (The Enchanted Square).  Singers from the Maggio Musicale Children’s Choir will perform together with the orchestras and choruses of the Cherubini Conservatory and the Fiesole School of Music.

The evening’s program of songs is a repertory that pays homage to the grand masters of classical music. Celebrated composers whose masterpieces will be performed include Schubert, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Verdi.

Before the performance begins, Elio Michele, leader of the Elio Musical Ensemble, and Francesco Michele, Artistic Director of the Macerata Opera Festival, will make opening remarks. They will acknowledge CR Firenze Foundation President Umberto Tombari and Florence Mayor Dario Nardella as key figures who made this event possible.

Passes can be picked up on Wednesday June 28, from 10 am to 6 pm at the Teatro Verdi Ticket Office on via Ghibellina 99.  (margaux glovier)
