Free Florence Cathedral Celebratory Concert

An eclectic, free concert will be presented on Thursday, June 8 at Florence’s Santa Maria del Fiore’s Cathedral (Duomo) in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the completion of the Florence landmark’s marble façade. The program under the auspices of the O Flos Colende festival, performed by the Gioacchino Rossini Philharmonic Orchestra, will highlight “Le Feste a Firenze,” composed by Lapo Miglorati, specifically for the 1887 grand inauguration.

In front of the Duomo above the steps, the orchestra will interpret the classical works of Gioacchino Rossini, Pour Le Pour Le Mariage de S.A.R. le Duc d’Orlèans and his famous opera pieces such as la Preghiera dal Mosè in Egitto. In addition, Bach’s l’aria from suite no. 3 will also be performed.

The program will be centered around around the main song of the evening, a blazing march by Migliorati. The transcript of “Le Feste a Firenze” was recently found in a private library, and presented to the artistic director of the “O Flos Colende,” Gabriele Giacomelli. Contemporary works of Stefano Burbi, entitled Pater Noster, will complement the march.
