Frozen Yogurt Arrives in Florence

yogurt A 4of4Located close to via Calzauioli, Yogurt & Co. (via Tosinghi 4/R) is a wonderful little dessert shop for those who are looking for something other than a traditional Italian gelato. The owner, Mirko Coco, hails from Romagna, and is very passionate about frozen yogurt. After seeing lots of yogurt shops come, he perfected his recipe through lots of self-study and trial and error and the result is a refreshing treat with just the right amount of tanginess and sweetness.

Mirko is adamant about using only the best ingredients. He only uses yogurt from the Italian Alps to make his namesake product and all the sauces and toppings are made with fresh ingredients, including fruit jams, syrups, melted chocolate concoctions, and seasonal fruits.

Having already opened two shops in northern Italy, Mirko inaugurated his Florence location on April 30, 2015 and it has already proven to be quite popular with the locals and gaining traction with tourist crowds. Yogurt & Co. is attractive, characterized by  elegant, yet warm and cozy atmosphere, with a playful but refined all-white décor. The other key to the shop’s success is Mirko’s philosophy—the product speaks for itself. He does not believe in ostentatious displays in store windows to sell his yogurt, the taste and quality of his confections will speak for themselves.

Yogurt and Co. is also gluten-friendly. The frozen yogurt and many of the toppings are made according to celiac standards and kept separate from the products that do contain gluten so those with dietary restrictions can indulge worry free!

Yogurt & Co. is open from 10 am to midnight, seven days a week. For those who wish to meet the man behind the yogurt, Mirko is usually there until 7 or 8 pm. A cone costs €2 for the regular, €3 for the medium (includes 2 toppings), and €4 for the large (includes 3 toppings). There are four cup sizes to choose from, €2 for the regular (includes 1 topping), €3 for the medium (includes 2 toppings), €4 for the large (includes 3 toppings), and €5 for the maxi (includes 5 toppings). If you want to take some home to enjoy, Mirko offers insulated take out bowls in regular (€7), medium (€13), and large (€18 ). (connie chang)
