G7 Culture Summit Scheduled in Florence

Two months before the G7 summit of leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States (plus a representative from the European Union) in May 2017, a summit of Minsters of Culture from the G7 (Group of Seven) nations will take place in Florence on March 30 – 31 as announced by Cultural Heritage Minister Dario Franceschini in Rome.

It marks the first time that a G7 cultural summit has ever been organized.

Some political insiders believe this is a consolation prize to Florence given the fact that former Prime Minister Renzi had first announced that Florence would host the G7 meeting, which he later moved to Sicily.  The venue for the cultural summit has not been chosen yet in Florence, although Palazzo Vecchio is a strong contender.
