Holiday Book Reading & Musical Theatre for Kids

This week in Florence will bring two Christmas-themed events that children will enjoy.

BOOK READING

The Harold Acton Library of the British Institute will hold its monthly reading for kids featuring “Pooh’s Christmas Adventure” on December 15 starting at 5 pm.

Children are invited to spend the day with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit and Eeyore as they celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. This activity is in English and will take place in the Children’s Room of the library, which is located on Lungarno Guicciardini 9. This program is designed for ages 3 to 8, but all are welcome.

Families are also invited to afternoon tea from 4:30 pm to 6 pm upstairs.

Spaces are limited, but no reservations are required. Participants must be members of the library or take out a day membership, which costs €5.

THEATRE

This holiday season, the Orchestra della Toscana in collaboration with the Department of Education of the City of Florence will offer a musical for kids at Teatro Verdi on via Ghibellina.

“The Snowman” (Il Pupazzo di Neve)  popular with kids of all ages, returns to Florence. Based on the book of the same name by Raymond Briggs, the tale recounts the friendship of a boy and a snowman that comes to life and befriends the boy, leading to wondrous adventures.  “The Snowman” will be come to life with storytelling and narration by Annamaria Guerrini and live music by Howard Blake and Carlomeno Volpini.

Performances are scheduled on December 13 and 14 at 9:30 am and 10:45 am. There will also be a Saturday matinee on December 17 at 4:30 pm. Tickets cost €5 for children and €8 for adults. (kaylah grant)
