As the vacation approaches, and the pace begins to slow down, the events aimed at children do as well.  The Children’s Lending Library, located below the American Church, will close its doors for the summer on June 14, but offer a final reading on June 10 from 10 am to 12 noon for kids of all ages.  The book is Creatures of the Ocean, Big and Small, following by fun activities for all ages.

The Children’s Lending Library is located at B. Rucellai 9, near Porta a Prato and is accessible Wednesday 10 am – 12 noon, Thursday 4 – 6 pm, and Sunday 10- 10:45 am and 12 noon – 1 pm, September through June. Over 1,000 of volumes, including nonfiction, picture, and primary books are found in the space. Upon reopening, the Children’s Lending Library is searching for volunteers in the hopes to have longer opening hours.  For information, email Clelia Fontanella at childrenslendinglibrary@googlemail.com.

The following week, on June 15, the Harold Acton Library at the the British Institute of Florence (via Guicciardini 9), will offer a reading as well .   The chosen tale is Jerry’s Trousers, a humorous account of a troublesome dog struggling to find a pair of pants. Tea and cookies will follow in the library from 4:30 – 6 pm. Ages 3 – 8 are welcome together with their parents.  A €6 day membership is required to participate.  (jennifer klammer)
