Melnyk’s Continuous Music Concert

Lubomyr Melnyk is the Ukrainian mastermind behind the unique style of continuous piano music. Hailed as one of the fastest pianists in the world, he synthesizes rapid keystrokes in order to create repeating patterns and a natural, soothing rhythm.

He will be performing at the Sala Vanni for Musicus Concentus, as a guest of the traditionally jazz and electronic concert series. This is an opportunity to enjoy the developing genre of a world-renowned musician and his accompanying demeanor, which is just as peaceful as his music.

Melnyk’s most popular release, Windmills, employs all aspects of his personal style. The album brings listeners along the journey of a lone standing windmill as a metaphor for human life. Storms that batter the windmill, like challenges in people’s lives, are heard through the song’s pacing and escalation.  The musician was also inspired by the 1937 Academy award winning Disney cartoon film “The Old Mill.”

In late 2015, he debuted another work titled: Rivers And Streams, which also demonstrates the melodic and natural tendency of his style. Melnyk himself attributes the piece to the beauty of nature, something he is very in touch with.  (jordan siccardi)
