florence-flood-alluvione-copyMon. Nov. 28: MEMORIES OF THE FLOOD: COMMEMORATIVE EVENT. Casa Guidi, Piazza San Felice, 8. Florence. All are welcome. Free entrance.

In honor of the great flood of Florence, Casa Guidi, the peaceful home that once belonged to English poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning, will kindly open its doors for a time of reminiscence with English residents present during the 1966 disaster (4 pm).

Afterwards, there will be a guided tour of St. Mark’s, an Anglican church dedicated to forming a community of Italians and English speaking locals. A general simple façade reveals an ornate interior, visually inviting the people of Florence to share in its celebration of faith. The current chaplain, Father William Lister, is devoted to keeping the church fully accessible to the public giving back the same warm welcome Florence offered him when he first arrived (via Maggio 16, 5:45 pm).

Following the tour, there will be a concert at the church with a selection of music from Howells, Fauré,  Rutter and Vaughan Williams.  (6 pm).  (grace liu)
