New Italian Language Web Portal

The second annual event “The General State of the Italian Language,” (Gli Stati Generali della Lingua Italiana) which will be held in the Florence’s Salone dei Cinquecento on October 17 and 18 in the presence of many invited guests including premier Renzi and president Mattarella, will also launch a new Italian language portal.  It is designed for people everywhere who would like to study Italian culture as well as the language, with one of the free courses of which will be ironically provided by Massachusetts’ Wellesley College.

Also participating in “The General States of the Italian Language” are representatives of Accademia della Crusca headquartered in a Florence suburbFormally incorporated in 1583, Accademia della Crusca’s immediate goal was to “clean up” the recently standardized Italian language, one that was characterized by hundreds of dialects stemming from years of evolution, cultural invasions and linguistic exchanges.

The Accademia della Crusca’s current mission focuses on the continuous research, study and promotion of the Italian language through collaboration with schools, universities and governmental institutions in Italy, the European Union and throughout the world. The frequently updated website, www.accademiadellacrusca.it, provides access to its virtual library and a wealth of information about its history and current initiatives.
