Liberation Day Concert at Teatro Verdi

This week offers the chance to reserve tickets to a free concert at Teatro Verdi in Florence.

The Orchestra della Toscana commemorates April 25, a national holiday to recognize the role that resistance fighters (partigiani) had in liberating Italy from Nazi and Fascist forces with an event titled “Peace & Love: Dreaming for a Better World” at 9 pm.

The performance provides an opportunity to relive the liberation through the sounds that characterized the end of the war (1945) and the beginning of the most important social revolution of the last century (1968).

Beginning this week, a voucher that entitles the guest to free entry (until seats are filled), can be picked at the Box Office (via Ghibellina, 97) starting Monday, April 9 or downloaded from on the ORT website.

The evening will feature the words of Pier Paolo Pasolini, Elsa Morante, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, performed by Gabriele Lavia and Vinicio Marchioni.

Sounds and music come from Gian Francesco Malipiero and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphonies, performed by ORT under the direction of Fabrizio Ventura. (elise loveless)
