Piazza Ciompi’s Possible Future

Florence mayor Dario Nardella has posted the rendering and description of a project — donated by an architect — of a new urban park in piazza dei Ciompi.  The area was vacated last year by antiques and bric a brac vendors so their stalls — which contained a high percentage of asbestos — could be dismantled and discarded.

The vendors and their wares have relocated to piazza Annigoni.  While some would like to return to their former venue, city council has vetoed their proposal.  Amidst concerns the piazza dei Ciompi would be converted into an outdoor food court, the mayor has publicized the current proposal, which comprises a lawn, trees and benches and the possibility to host markets nearby
