A Senegalese Designer Debuts in Florence

Born in Senegal but after having migrated in childhood to Spain, Picolo Dio is a 24-year-old fashion designer who will inaugurate his menswear collection on the evening of April 20 in Florence.

Diop was apprenticed to a tailor in Rome who taught him how to take measurements and cut a garment.  He has worked at Florence’s Pitti fashion shows as a pr representative, all the while wearing his own styles which were the subject of a pictorial layout in Vogue.

In his own words, Diop’s fashion, as epitomized by his men’s shirts, act as a bridge between cultures, displaying the impeccable sober Italian tailoring with dashes of brightly colored Senegalese fabric prepared according to the wax method in his native village.
