Street Art Gallery Opens in Florence

A street once traditionally home to Florentine artisans, via Palazzuolo, which has fallen on hard time over the past few years, is now home to Tuscany’s first urban art gallery.  Located at 74 ar, the newly inaugurated Street Level Gallery hosts works by several street artists of note in a show titled “Unity Wanted.”  They include Clet, famous for his redesigned street signs; Blub, who creates the Renaissance historical characters sporting underwater goggles and diving masks on city walls, ExitEnter’s stylized figures held aloft by red balloons; Zedi1, the author of large scale murales; and others.

The owners of the Street Level Gallery, which is located in an abandoned space that was renovated, plan to invite sculptors, photographers and other creatives to exhibit.  Also on the program in the future will be workshops, concerts and aperitivi.  To see a photo gallery and read more in Italian, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
