Teachers Not Yet Assigned in Florence

Due to the fact that this year the offices of Florence’s metropolitan area educational department are only open one day a week (Thursday from 9 am – 12:30 pm, 3 to 5 pm), many of the district’s permanent and substitute teaching positions for 2016-17 have yet to be filled just a few weeks after the official opening of the school year.

In the meantime, the local department of education has assigned jobs in the meantime to temps who are former teachers, often retired, who return to duty for a couple of weeks.

The situation is one of mass chaos.  To read more in Italian, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
