The Odeon Reopens: September Films in English

September’s English language films at the Odeon include a second romantic comedy featuring the music of Swedish pop group Abba with some familiar faces in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Robert Di Niro’s classic Raging Bull filled with angst and pathos, shows for one night only. The inspiring documentary I’ll Push You portrays two friends and a wheel chair conquering the 500 miles of the El Camino de Santiago. For fans of action and adventure, the macho thriller Equalizer II, showcases Denzel Washington.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again: September 10 and 11 (5:30 pm) September 12 and 13 (5:30 and 9 pm) and September 14, 15 and 16 (4:15, 6:30 and 9 pm). The follow up film is set five years after the original based on the musical of the same name featuring the music of ABBA. Filmed on the pristine island of Vis on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, the sun, sand and charm of the sea adds appeal to the energetic, charismatic and fun film. With an ensemble cast including Lily James, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth Stellan Skarsgård, Cher and Meryl Streep, fans of the first movie with enjoy this one as well.

Raging Bull: Sept 10 (9 pm). Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece about a magnum opus boxer Jake La Motta (Robert Di Niro). The Italian-American tough guy from the Bronx, overcome by jealously and paranoia descends into a self-destructive nadir. Survival is the theme of the film, but the masterpiece is difficult to watch.

I’ll Push You (Ti Porto Io): September 11 (9 pm) An intimate portrait and an epic journey that explores the true meaning of friendship and the power of the community. Starring real life friends Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray, one fighting neuromuscular disease is pushed in a wheelchair by his able bodied friend along the challenging pilgrimage of Spain’s El Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James leading to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela).

The Equalizer II: September 17 and 19 (4:15, 6:30 and 9 pm) and September 18 (4:15 and 6:30). Denzel Washington plays a former secret agent, Robert McCall who exacts justice to the bad guys he meets as a Lyft driver. This action-packed thriller dishes out a full plate of violence and bloodshed.  (rita kungel)
