Tree Falls on Tour Bus
A big linden tree unexpectedly toppled over during the violent May 21 rainstorm in Florence, crashing onto the roof of a tour bus on Lungarno del Tempio. A group of 35 Korean tourists were on bus, which had stopped for a red light when the accident occurred shortly before 4 pm.
An ambulance quickly arrived to transport 11 of the tourists on board to two local hospitals, Santa Maria Nuova and Careggi. One man was reported in serious condition due to a concussion. The bus driver received medical attention on the scene. Traffic was paralyzed for hours in and around Florence as a result. Legal action by the victims is expected.
