An African man was killed right before noon on Florence’s Ponte Vespucci on March 5 by a 65-year-old Italian. He died of gunshot wounds that were fired by Roberto Pirrone, who told police after his arrest, that he also intended to commit suicide because of money problems. The alleged assassin left a note for his relatives telling them to withdraw all the money from his bank accounts.
The employees of the U.S. Consulate heard the shots fired and called the police. The whole area is now closed to traffic, including pedestrians.
