The iconic pieces by the inventor of Pop Art are, true to style, mainly silkscreens including portrayals of Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger and Elvis Presley in addition to a giant ticket to a Lincoln Center film festival and a series of dollar bills; delicate chrysanthemums in honor of Japan created after he was wounded by an assailant; and a paper dress with repetitions of the Campbell Soup Can.
The exhibition is complemented by an outdoor installation of Vespa frameworks that climb the wall of a nearby tower, as well as three colorful Vespas parked in the square where people can pose for selfies. This section is a project by Simone D’Auria, manager of the nearby Leica store. To see a photo gallery, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
