Awaiting the ‘Waiting for Godot’ Theatre Production in English

For the first time in over 40 years, an English-language production of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett’s tragicomedy Waiting for Godot will take the stage in Italy. As part of their Tuscan tour, J. Productions, Milan will present Waiting for Godot at St. Mark’s English Church (via Maggio 16-18) on July 28 at 7:30 pm. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door: €20 general admission and €15 for students. 

This rendition of Beckett’s most famous work is directed by British theatre creator, Rupert Mason with performances by actors Justin Butcher, Nicholas Scott Redding, Tony Bell, Jon Kellam, and Madeline Wolf. 

Waiting for Godot is an absurdist two act play featuring philosophical musings, slapstick comedy and an ever relevant dose of existentialism. The plot revolves around vagabonds, Vladimir and Estragon conversing under a tree while they wait for a mysterious man named Godot who they believe will bring them salvation. While Godot never appears, the two men encounter three other characters: a wealthy tyrant named Pozzo, Pozzo’s slave Lucky, and a young messenger boy who brings them the news that Godot will come another day. 

Despite its creation almost 80 years ago in a post World War II setting, Beckett’s Waiting for Godot remains a pertinent piece, capable of entertaining and enlightening a modern day audience. To pre-order tickets please visit jproductionsmilan.com.
