Bohemian Rhapsody at the Odeon
December 2, 7, 8 and 9 (4, 6:45 and 9:15 pm), December 4, 10 and 11 (4 pm), December 5 (9 pm) and December 6 (3:45 pm): BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY.
Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic, celebrates the music of Queen, legendary rock band and its meteoric rise to stardom with the spotlight on the eccentric and energetic front man Freddie Mercury.
Rami Malek brilliantly plays Mercury, known for his flamboyant on-stage persona and four octave vocal range. The film begins and culminates with Queen’s triumphant performance at the Live Aid concert simultaneously performed in Wembley Stadium in London and the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985. Mercury’s childhood as a boarding school boy in India, his development as a musician and conflict with his sexuality give the viewer a taste of the person behind the electrifying dynamo on stage. The title song, a six-minute suite written by Mercury for Queen album Night at the Opera, is recreated for the Live Aid Ethiopian famine relief concert that many critics maintain was rock and roll’s greatest live performance.
