Caponnetto, A New Public Garden

The city of Florence has officially reopened the newly renovated Giardini Caponnetto, unveiling a transformed new public space, designed around sustainability and community.

Located on the Lungarno del Tempio, the 5,00 square metre gardens have been completely reimagined. With the planting of 29 new trees and around 100 new plants and bushes, the gardens have increased their biodiversity and green space. Notably, the reduction of asphalt by 70%, replaced by natural material such as sand, gravel and stabilised earth, has helped to improve environmental sustainability.

New amenities such as a playground, picnic areas, restored basketball court are aimed at encouraging both outdoor activity and community engagement.

The park maintains a strong civic identity, with a statue of magistrate Antonino Caponnetto standing at the centre of the park, symbolising community responsibility and legality.

This redevelopment reflects Florence’s commitment to enhance public green spaces, providing residents with a space for leisure, reflection and social life.  (Aniela Cabut)
