Coin Department Store’s Grand Reopening

After months of waiting Coin has finally opened its doors again after the 2021 closure of its historic location in via Calzaiuoli. Coin had been a staple for 30 years in the same spot where its predecessor Duilio 48 opened in 1902. Coin closed the location forever in 2021 after not obtaining a rent decrease during the pandemic.

The Coin department store’s new location is now between Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi in the Loggia del Grano.

The newly constructed Coin reopened on December 14 at 11 am after five months of work and a six-million-euro investment. The new building comprises of six floors which includes a restaurant, pastry shop and an outdoor area curated by the “Menchetti since 1948” family-run bakery from Arezzo. The store is open from 10 am to 8 pm while the restaurant areas are open from 8 am to 11 pm.

Coin’s retail director Giovanni Pace stated they wanted to implement Florentine and Tuscan features in the new store which can be seen throughout the product selection. While newly opened Coin is smaller than the previous one, the new focus is on having more modern products and keeping the store vibrant and dynamic. Across six floors there is a large range of merchandise which encompasses not only cosmetics, jewelry, perfumes but also women’s, fashion, men’s fashion, and home decor.

The store has also rehired all of the staff that worked in the via Calzaiuoli location along with many new employees.

Tonight, a cocktail party a will celebrate the opening, welcoming all customers starting at 6 pm. (Michela Tambasco)
