September 23: European Heritage Days.  Florence museums.

This coming Saturday, residents and visitors in Florence are welcome to enjoy the offerings of ‘European Heritage Days.’  Evening hours and nearly free admission along with special initiatives are scheduled in several state run museums and other public spaces in the city.

Promoted yearly by the European Council and the European Commission since 1991, this year’s theme is ‘culture and nature.’  It will attempt to encourage people to visit as many historical and important buildings as possible, some of which are not usually open.

The public will be able to visit the following state-run museums at the price of €2. €1 of the ticket price will be donated to restore works of art in the regions of Emilia Romagna, which was devastated by severe flooding last spring.

Uffizi Gallery (piazzale degli Uffizi, 6). Open 6:30 – 9:30 pm.

Accademia (via Ricasoli 58/60). Open 7 – 10 pm.

Bargello National Museum of Renaissance Sculpture (via del Proconsolo 4).  Open 7 – 9:50 pm.  Free classical concert in the courtyard at 8 pm featuring the Ferdinando Romano Quartet.
