‘Fiera della Lana’ Market in SS Annunziata

La Fierucola will be in Piazza della Santissima Annunziata to welcome skilled weavers, carvers, and organic products on November 3 – 4 (9 am to 7 pm), while celebrating the local, skilled artisans of the region.

This edition, called the Fiera della Lana di San Martino, will be featuring vibrant textiles created from natural dyes. Demonstrating the use of sustainable methods, products being sold at the market will be vividly colored from organic materials, like berries, bark, walnut shells, turmeric, and chamomile.

Sweaters, blankets, scarves, and other comfy items available for purchase, will exhibit the softness and beauty of using natural yarn. With the weather becoming chilly, people will have the opportunity to stock up on winter gear, while helping the local farming economy.  Items include capes, scarves, hats, gloves, pullovers, dresses and even blankets.

Craftsman will be showcasing their useful objects made from local resources. Ceramic bowls containing vivid prints and olive wood bowls carved by hand will be available. The makers will display their baskets, ladles, and other home accessories made from natural sources in the square.

All aspects of small-scale farming will be exhibited at the market. Natural soap and skin care products demonstrate the benefits of organic beauty, while decorated woolen bags show how shopping locally can still be fashionable.

Keeping with the traditions of Fierucola, seasonal products will be sold to satisfy the appetites of hungry shoppers. Containing organic ingredients that are not chemically processed, food from the farms will be available for purchase.

From breads and pastas made with hearty, antique grains, flour, and wheat, to jams, cheeses, honey, wine, and oils produced sustainably in the Tuscan hills, consumers can be sure they are receiving the best quality products from regional farms.

Walking amongst the stands, descriptions are provided to inform people about the farm and product. Customers can interact with the producers, which creates a direct and fluid dialogue between the seller and buyer.  (karen gee)
