‘Firenze Marathon’ 2022 in Downtown Florence

Sun. 27: FIRENZE MARATHON. Starts and ends in Piazza Duomo. 8:30 am. Athletes from all over will come together for the Firenze Marathon. 

The marathon itself is 42.195 kilometers (26 mi). The route will go through centuries of art, history and culture here in Florence. Registrations are closed as of now, however more information about the event’s route and background can be found at www.firenzemarathon.it. Expect to see the fastest runner receive their trophies around 11:15 am in Piazza Duomo, while the last participants are expected to arrive at 2:30 pm.

The Ginky Family Run, departing from Piazza della Repubblica at 8:50 am, is an event devoted to children. The goal is to unite younger and older generations through sport and involve as many people in the city as possible.

Many streets will be closed to traffic until mid-afternoon, including viale Matteotti, via Ponte alle Mosse, via Bronzino, viale Gramsci, viale Giovine Italia, Lungarno Pecori Giraldi and others.  Ponte alla Vittoria, the city’s boulevards and the tramway route 2, where the trams will not run between the Piazza dell’Unità and Ponte all’Asse stops from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Many bus lines, which include the 1, 8, 12-13, 14, 17, 20, C1, C2, C3 and the C4 -will be canceled from the morning to early afternoon hours. Lines 6, 7, 10, 11, 17, 23, 25, 30, 31, 32, 35, 36, 37 and 55 will experience longer transit times due to being rerouted. 

Registered runners will be given a kit containing ASICS running gear and promotional material. The cloakroom will be located at Piazza Santa Maria Novella, with refreshment points available every five kilometers and bathrooms are located in each stop including the arrival area and the cloakroom. A bus is available to anyone who withdraws in order to take them to the cloakroom and the changing room. A certificate will be given to all participants, with a medal being awarded to all runners who complete the marathon. (beatrice paoletti)
