‘Florence Lights Up’ For Christmas

Along with Christmas trees in Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza San Firenze and Piazzale Michelangelo, video mapping will bring color and light to the holidays in the city of the Renaissance. The following landmarks will host a digital shows nightly: Ponte Vecchio; Palazzo Vecchio (city hall); and the Church of San Paolino. Special four-color LED illumination will make Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Florence Chamber of Commerce; the historic gates, the Loggiato degli Innocenti, the Loggiato di San Paolo (outside the Novecento Museum of 20th and 21st Century Art), Piazza Santa Maria Novella, and Piazza San Lorenzo shine brightly during Christmas season.
In addition, 65 trees have been set up in local neighborhoods. The installations will remain in place through January 6.
For kids for 3 to 10, a miniature railway leaving from viale Abramo Lincoln will take them on a free tour of the Cascine Park on the following dates at 3, 4 and 5 pm: Saturday, Dec. 13, Saturday, Dec. 20; Tuesday, December 24; Friday, December 26; Saturday, December 27; Friday, January 2; Saturday, January 3; Sunday, January 4; and Monday, January 5.
