Florence’s 2019 Spring Plant & Flower Fair in a Local Park

Until May 1, 2019: PLANT & FLOWER FAIR. Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 4.  Open 9 am – 7:30 pm.  Free admission.

Come down to the Giardino dell’Orticoltura this week for the Tuscan Society of Horticulture’s spring Plant and Flower fair featuring over 70 specialist vendors offering a wide selection of plants, flowers, vases, outdoor furniture and more. Visitors can stroll through the beautiful garden, with its antique 19th century greenhouse centrepiece, marvel at the range of products offered, and take part in the workshops offered.

This year’s fair will host vendors selling all kinds of flowers, from orchids, rose, bonsais, tulip bulbs and scented flowers to the Florentine iris sold in vases. A wide variety of plants will also be on display including exotic cacti, rhizomes, climbing plants, indoor plants and aquatic plants. For those looking for something even more eccentric, carnivorous plants can be found at Un Angolo di Deserto di Castellaneta’s stand. Returning this year will also be artisans from Terrecotte Artistiche Toscane selling both new and antique terracotta pots. Several stands will also be exhibiting plant-based soaps and essential oils, organic herbs, natural fibre clothing and a variety of lavender products. On top of this there will be gardening equipment and books, outdoor furniture, swimming pools, potting soil and ancient varieties of fruit trees available to purchase.

Beyond the myriad of stalls on show, this year’s fair will also be offering a range of activities. These include a day dedicated to landscaping (April 30) and a presentation of the book ‘The English Garden through the Eyes of Jane Austen’  April 30, 5-6 pm).  (stephanie d’amelio)
