Florence’s Christmas Village’s New Location

Florence’s holiday Ferris wheel has a new home

Piazzale Vittorio Veneto at the Cascine Park will transform into a Christmas Village this season. Beginning on December 8, a 55-meter-high (180 ft.) Ferris Wheel will open, providing an opportunity to see a beautiful view of Florence. This Florence tradition adds so much excitement to the season, and this year it will remain in place and accessible until June 10, 2024.

There will be other attractions, entertainment, and activities surrounding the Ferris Wheel which will remain Christmas-themed until January 15. The ice skating rink of over 1300 square meters, the largest in Italy, will be installed next to the large Christmas tree in the Piazzale at the Cascine. Visitors can explore the Christmas market, taste the delicious food and hot chocolate, meet Santa Claus and ride his sleigh next to Santa’s House, while enjoying the festive atmosphere.

This is the first year the Ferris Wheel and ice skating rink are located at the Cascine, as in the past they have been installed at the Fortezza da Basso.

This traveling entertainment attraction will bring so much Christmas cheer to this corner of Florence. The Cascine is easily accessible by tram, and Superintendent Antonella Ranaldi has ensured ample security and safety measures. The festivities will be memorable for residents, tourists, children, and adults alike. The whole event will be powered by energy produced entirely from renewable sources in collaboration with Frisbi Energia. (Abigail Dawson)
