Walking down the timeless  streets, attention is often drawn to a majestic doorway, barred windows with a faint view of frescoed ceilings, and wisteria vines climbing the balconies of a private courtyard. All this and more will be visible to the general public in the space of a single weekend during the upcoming “Open Courtyards and Gardens” event.

In a once-a-year opportunity, the history and beauty that draws attention and tourists to Florence will be highlighted, allowing access to over 80 historic homes, monumental parks, courtyards and wine cellars.

Celebrating its 16th year, the event will focus on the theme of landscape and the countryside.  The opportunity to embrace the unique local artistic heritage, architecture, and landscape is vital to preservation and perpetuating the memory of Tuscany’s considerable private cultural legacy.  Over 15 venues will be open in downtown Florence alone, thanks to the efforts of the A.D.S.I.  (Association of Historic Italian Dwellings).

Besides Florence, guests will be welcomed at locations in Lucca, Pisa, and Siena, as well as the areas of Lunigiana and Maremma.
