Florence’s Public Pools 2025: Beating the Heat

While Florence has experienced shockingly record-breaking heat, local pools offer a wide variety of options for those looking to cool down. Depending on your location your day plans, and your preferred pool environment, there is bound to be a Florentine public pool within a reachable distance by public transportation or walking.
All the pools mentioned in this article have on-staff lifeguards and some form of refreshment station to ensure that you can beat the Florence summer heat safely and comfortably.
Le Pavionere
Located at Viale della Catena 2, Le Pavoniere has a restaurant, bar, and pool that is popular among tourists and locals. This pool can be reached by taking the C3 bus to Vittorio Veneto or the T1 tram to the Cascine stop. Upon arrival, there is about a 15-minute walk to the pool’s entrance. This walk makes Le Pavoniere less accessible than other pools around Florence; however, a majority of the walk is through the Cascine Park, which provides a scenic view.
Entrance to Le Pavoniere is €10. A swim cap is required to enter the pool, and it can be purchased upon entrance. In total, my trip to Le Pavoniere cost €19 for entrance, a swim cap, and a sunbed. There are two pools at the location, one shallow pool intended for children and one pool for adults. Neither pool, however, is off limits to guests. The pool and nearby café are open from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 7 pm on weekends and holidays.
In my experience, locals visiting the pool were extremely social and welcoming to tourists. A day trip to Le Pavoniere presents an opportunity to engage with the Florentines.
Piscina Flog Poggetto
The Piscina Flog Poggetto (the Flog) is a recreation center that has an auditorium for movies and concerts, as well as a public pool. Located on Via Michele Mercati 24, the Flog can be reached by taking the T-1 tram from the Santa Maria Novella station to the Poggetto stop.
The Flog is open from 10 am to 7 pm daily. During my visit, entrance tickets were €9, with a reduced price of €7 available to students under 26. On weekdays, tickets are €8, with student prices reduced to €6. Sunbeds were available free of charge and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. It was relatively easy to find a sunbed, if you plan, however on coming with a large group of people, it may be difficult to find sunbeds near each other.
The Flog only has one pool, which can become crowded easily. Due to the luscious shrubbery, there is a proper distribution of shaded and sunny areas, both in the pool and in the surrounding area. This factor makes it easy to find a comfortable spot at the Flog. Similar to Le Pavioniere, the Flog attracts a combination of both locals and tourists.
Piscina Goffredo Nannini di Bellariva
Surrounded by a stunning lawn and garden, Piscina Bellariva is located on Lungarno Aldo Moro 6. The two pools on site are adjacent to a volleyball area and plenty of room on the lawn to enjoy the summer sun. Bellariva also features a dedicated children’s pool; however, children are also welcome in the large pool. There is also a café which makes spending the day there even more enjoyable.
Entrance to Bellariva costs €8 on weekdays and €9 on Saturdays and holidays. It can be reached by taking the 14 bus to Aretina De Gasperi, followed by a short walk to the pool’s gates. The pool is open from 10 am to 6 pm on weekdays, with the hours being extended to 7 pm on weekends.
In my experience, the pool area at Bellariva was extremely crowded. However, this is to be expected during the hottest hours of the afternoon. During my visit, I did not go into the pool because of the multitude of people. Fortunately, this issue can be solved by the showering stations that are placed around the lawn at Bellariva.
If you prefer to spend your pool days basking in the sun, you can briefly beat the heat under one of these outdoor showers, which are conveniently located in the lounging and sunbed areas.
Municipal Swimming Pool Costoli
The Costoli swimming pool features a municipal sports facility with two outdoor pools, a diving platform, a snack bar, and a picnic area. It is also the largest public swimming venue in Florence.
Located in Piazza Enrico Berlinguer, it can be reached by taking the 6 bus to Landucci Da Bisticci, followed by a 10-minute walk to the destination. On weekdays, entrance to the pool costs €8, and reduced tickets are €5.50. On weekends and holidays, adults pay €9, and reduced tickets are €6.
The pool and surrounding area are relatively open, allowing hours of constant sun during your stay. However, as it gets warmer, this extended exposure may be draining. Before visiting Costoli, don’t forget to pack the sunscreen. (Mia Schaeperkoetter)
