Florence’s Summer 2026 Night Bus Network

 

Late nights in Florence are about to become easier to navigate. Beginning June 11, the city will launch its first organized night bus network, giving residents and visitors a new way to travel after regular public transportation hours end. 

The experimental service, created by the City of Florence in collaboration with Autolinee Toscane, will run daily from 10 pm to 2 am through October. The network includes 24 routes, with 17 lines adapted specifically for nighttime service and three completely new routes added to the system.

Several existing routes are also being reorganized as part of the new network. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Line 18, which combines portions of existing routes to create a direct connection between Il Girone and Tavarnuzze. The route will link neighborhoods including Bellariva, Santa Croce, the Oltrarno, and Galluzzo, while providing a link  to Fiesole and Impruneta. Line 6 will also be extended to Gignoro, improving connections between Quartieri 1, 2, and 4 neighborhoods, while Line 17 will offer service through Santa Maria Novella Station and Piazza San Marco, extending to the Salviatino area, covered by #11 during the day. 

The launch comes as Florence enters one of its busiest times of the year. With Estate Fiorentina (Florence Summer Festival) 2026 bringing concerts, festivals, and cultural events to neighborhoods across the city, the new service is expected to provide an easier option for people returning home after an evening out. 

According to city officials, the project is designed to support a variety of users, from young people and night-shift workers to those attending summer events. Depending on the routes, buses will arrive every 15 to 25 minutes. 

The expanded network will connect the historic center with areas outside the city center and nearby municipalities. Key locations including Santa Maria Novella Station, Fortezza da Basso, Piazza della Livertá, and Porta al Prato will remain accessible late into the evening.

For a city known for its walkability and public transportation, the addition of a nighttime bus system marks a significant change. As Florence’s summer season gets underway, the service aims to make moving around the city after dark safer and more convenient for both residents and visitors.
