Free Baroque Festival Concert at Santa Felicita

Florence’s annual Baroque Music Festival kicks off with a free concert at the Church of Santa Felicita near Ponte Vecchio on Friday, May 3 at 9 pm.
The performance, an hour long, will highlight the talents of organist Federico del Sordo and singer Angelo Goffredo, specialists in sacred music, who will interpret the music of 17th century composers Girolamo Frescobaldi, Giovan Battista Fasolo, Giovanni Paolo Cima, Lodovico Grossi da Viadana and Giovanni Maria Trabaci.
The church of Santa Felicita was constructed in 1550, predating the organ (built by O. Zefferini) by little more than two decades (1572). The church was a place of worship for cloistered nuns, including Galileo’s daughter Suor Maria Celeste, who provided organ accompaniment on the same instrument. The church is also home to fresco of the Deposition by Pontormo in the Mannerist style. Seats can be reserved by sending an email to associazione.musicale.kof@gmail.com or calling 3758914223.
