Free Classical Concerts in Piazza San Firenze & Via Pandolfini

This week brings two free evening classical concerts in the historical center of Florence. The first is hosted by the San Filippo Oratory (piazza San Firenze 16) on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 pm. The second will take place in the San Niccolò di Bari (Ceppo) oratory (via Pandolfini 3) on Sunday, April 13 at 6 pm.
The Sunday concert will feature a group comprised of Sabrina Caponi (vocals), Silvia Fontani (traverse flute), Tosca Bellomo (cello) and Dimitri Betti (cymbals and organ) who will interpret the music of Bach, Telemann and Zipoli.
Two string ensembles–the Rocky Mountain String Orchestra of Utah and the Suzuki Musical Center of Florence–will perform classical Baroque and Romantic compositions.
The opening is Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, Vivaldi’s Symphony in B minor and “Nearer My God to Thee” by Lowell Mason. The Rocky Mountain String Orchestra will the perform a musical tribute to Ennio Morricone in addition the soundtrack of “Mission,” followed by the Italian musicians playing pieces by Giacomo Puccini (including “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi, “Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gounod’s “Ave Maria,” and the prelude to “The Well-Tempered Clavichord.”
The final pieces are “Méditation,” from “Thaïs,” by French composer Jules Massenet and intermezzo from the Pietro Mascagni opera “Cavalleria Rusticana.”
