Free Concerts in Piazza Signoria

The Florence Youth Festival (FOG), the annual international music festival showcasing the talent of young musicians, traveling throughout Italy for two months, will continue its tour with a series of concerts in Florence this August.
Under the direction of conductor Kaethi Schmid Lauber, the European ensemble Crescendo Youth Orchestra will perform a program on Tuesday, August 1 at 8 pm that will feature grand symphonies and well-known songs. The repertoire will include compositions by Albert Ketèlbey “In a Persian Market,” and Vincenzo Bellini’s “Il Pirata” in addition to Dvorak.
On Wednesday, August 2, at 8:30 am, a group from South Korea, Gwangju YMCA Youth Orchestra, conducted by Kang Jae Jin. Lim Ju Seong will solo on the oboe and Kang Tae Ho on the flute. The evening will feature a selection from Rossini and Beethoven symphonies, works by Oscar-winning composer Morricone as well as Alan Silvestri, and K-pop sensation, Bangtan Boys (BTS). (cami fowler)
