Giotto’s Bell Tower Restoration Phase Begins

Scaffolding is being set up for the restoration of the Florence Cathedral Bell Tower (also known as Giotto’s Bell Tower), which will start on March 9.
The cleaning and restoration, which will cost seven million euro, is expected to terminate in four months. The team will their work start at the top of the tower, revealing the renovated areas while moving downward to continue the process.
This is the first time that the exterior of Bell Tower will be restored in its entirety. The work will focus on the cleaning of the marble sourced from. white from Carrara, green from Prato and pink from Cintoia in addition to terrace and decorative elements.
The Bell Tower is part of the Florence Cathedral museum complex.
