Green Lights & A Walk for Global Mental Health Day

Across Florence, green lights will illuminate several monuments including the historical gates to raise awareness for World Mental Health Day on October 10. Throughout the country 17 major cities including Florence are taking part in this initiative, to draw attention to the importance of combatting stigma in all areas of mental health, and to highlight the hard work of those who work in this sector. In Florence the initiative will last three days: October 9, 10 and 11.

Green is the colour associated with mental wellbeing and encouraging people to speak out and get help. Itaca ETS Project Foundation – that founded the initiative – urges the public to join in in their Digital Contest “Io accendo il verde sulla salute mentale” (I shine a green light on mental health), by contributing and strengthening the message of hope in the project. Another event that will form part of the initiative is a walk up to the Piazzale Michelangelo on October 11, at 6 pm. The walk offers beautiful views of the city and an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. The meeting point is Piazza Ugo Poggi – Porta San Niccolò, and walking up Le Rampe you can admire the wonderful stonework and fountains.
