Heavy Winds Cause Havoc

As a result of the codice arancione, a moderate weather alert, there are multiple closures of public areas in Florence and Tuscany on March 26.  With winds that reached 90 kph (56 mph) off the coast and snow up in the mountains, there is damage across Tuscany, putting activities on hold due to to the gusts people heard from the safety of their homes on the night of March 25.

Trees have fallen and branches have snapped off of others.

Most flights at the Peretola airport have been cancelled completely or postponed.  Public parks and gardens, such as Boboli and those on school properties, are closed for the day. The weekly market at the Cascine will be postponed until next Tuesday. Expect delays while driving and on regional train lines. The ferry service in Livorno has both delays and cancellations.  (katy sparks)
