‘Imagine’: a John & Yoko Tribute at the Odeon

As part of worldwide celebrations to mark the anniversary of John Lennon’s birth (October 9, 1940), Florence’s Cinema Odeon (piazza Strozzi) is hosting a three-day screening of the restored version of “Imagine” on Monday, October 8 (4:30, 6:30 & 9 pm); Tuesday, October 9 (4:30, 6:30 & 9 pm) and Wednesday, October 10 at 4 pm.  The movie will be accompanied by the original English soundtrack with Italian subtitles.  The music was remixed in Dolby Atmos (with a 3D effect) by the Abbey Road Studios.

The first 100 people who buy a ticket will be given a copy of the original movie poster. For the occasion, the Odeon has also installed a “Peace Bed,” that guests can sit on, leave a message of peace and even take a selfie.

Distinguished by an innovative use of sound and color, “Imagine,” restored frame by frame and has 15 minutes of footage that was originally cut.  The film features guest appearances by George Harrison, Ringo Starr,  Andy Warhol, Jack Palance, Fred Astaire, Dick Cavett, the late Nicky Hopkins of the Rolling Stones and Alan White of the progressive rock band Yes.

Directed and produced by John and Yoko, “Imagine” also contains imaginative dream sequences and full evokes the early Seventies, the period during which it was filmed.

Concurrently, the book Imagine John Yoko, authored by Yoko Ono, will be released world wide in which she gives a behind-the-scenes look at  the genesis, and evolution of the 1971 iconic John Lennon album.
